What Is Your Business Designed to Accomplish?

Right now, your business, combined with the daily actions you are/are not taking, is perfectly designed to achieve the results you are currently getting.

If you aren’t getting the results you want, that simply means you simply haven’t designed a business that will get them for you and you’re not taking consistent action on that design.

When you set appropriate objectives (the ones that get you to your goals the fastest) and take daily consistent action on those objectives, you focus your company like a laser. Because every decision you make will be judged by its ability to move your business closer to your stated objectives.

And the sum of those objectives = attainment of your larger goals.

So how do you determine and set your appropriate objectives?

The specific objectives for your business will differ from mine and everyone else’s. However, “appropriate objectives” essentially equate to the fewest number of accomplishments that will allow you to reach your goal.

I first heard this definition years ago and love it.

Think about it — why would you take 20 steps when you could take 5 and get to the same place? Adding to your “to do” or “action” list only costs more time and reduces your productivity.

Do you have a to-do list that doesn’t end? Are you always running from one thing to the next without the proper time to dedicate to the really important things in your business? Do you ever lack clarity on what needs to get done today, this week, this month? Have you ever looked back over the past 6 or 12 months in disappointment at what you achieved, especially when you consider how hard you worked to move your business forward?

If you answered “yes” to any of those, you’re likely chasing too many meaningless tasks (and/or bright shiny objects) instead of working on your fewest appropriate objectives.

When you zero in on your appropriate objectives, and ONLY your appropriate objectives, you’ll start to see things change within your business almost immediately.

You’ll become crystal clear on what your goals are at all times. You’ll be able to tell in an instant what opportunities are in line with your ultimate goals and which aren’t. Decisions won’t be an issue — you’ll immediately know whether something is for you or not. You’ll make immediate and constant progress. You’ll start to see your income grow, your business expand and ultimately not only achieve but exceed your success goals.

The issue is that few entrepreneurs have appropriate goals and objectives. Some have the wrong goals or the wrong objectives and, unfortunately, the only way to know this for sure is to implement and measure your results.

Far more have too many goals, too many objectives competing for their attention. You can easily become overwhelmed and stop taking action. This is often caused by a lack of quick decision making, saying “yes” to most things and not fully understanding your business model so you don’t know which objectives will serve you best.

Regardless of the reason you don’t have appropriate goals and objectives, one thing is clear… you won’t obtain the results you want. No matter how hard you work. No matter how much money you spend.

You’ll end up spending time learning things you don’t need to know, doing things that don’t need to be done and neglecting the priorities that should be demanding your full attention. You’ll find yourself mired in tasks that are offering minimal or no return for the energy you’re putting into them.

Moreover, in your efforts to do too much, you end up getting the exact opposite of what motivated you to take on too much in the first place. By doing MORE, you actually end up getting LESS. Not the business you were hoping for…

In order to create appropriate goals and objectives, first you need to answer the below questions:

  1. What exactly do I want from my business? Specifically define what your ideal business looks like.
  2. What is the absolute minimum necessary I need to achieve it? Describe what a business perfectly designed to achieve your goals would look like.
  3. What is the fastest and easiest path to get it done? Check your ideal business against what you’re currently doing and note what needs to change.

From this place of truly knowing what you want for your life and how your business fits into that (remember: “life” first, “business” second), you’ll be able to take a fresh look at your current goals and objectives and identify what stays, what goes and what gets tweaked.

When it comes down to running your own home based business, you will want it to work for you and not you work for it.

The whole reason why most people want to work from is so that they can free up time for other activities, partners, the dog and any number of other things. So why join a business opportunity and work from home, if it means that you will be working more hours than you ever did as an employee of someone else?

Many of the internet opportunities available have everything except the one thing that really matters and that is good instructions on how to use all the information they provide.

As an internet marketer, working full time from home is a great way to work and a great way to live, being able to leave work anytime you want and to start work any time you want is great, but without the training and the instruction for your system, whichever one you go for, you will struggle to get it working properly.

Make sure you research your subject well, take several weeks, if not months looking at products that work, take the 7 day trials, or the free trial periods, and if after the trial period is nearly over, you still don’t understand how it works, ditch the program, get your money back and try something else. Only work on one program at a time until you get good at it or you will become very confused.

If the product you choose has a ‘mentor’ program, sign up for it. Humans learn faster from real people, so if you can meet your mentor and have face to face meetings on a regular basis, this will dramatically improve your chances of success online.

Treat your home business opportunity as a real business…..

I once spoke to a very wealthy entrepreneur who told me when he first started working from home, he would get up around 10 or 11 and mooch about for a while and then eventually get some work done, he took 5 years to make any money online. When he realised that this was a ‘Business’ he decided to get up and ‘dress’ for work, put on a decent shirt, and shoes instead of slippers or bare feet. His business went from nothing to 6 figures in 6 months!

Take your online business opportunity seriously and it will make you a serious amount of money.

Choose carefully, so that the business you choose, works for you, is something you like to be involved with and that does not run You.

Above all, research the business opportunities fully and don’t pay for something you don’t understand.

I find it incredible that so many people intentionally try to make their advertisement, look like advertisement…

There has been numerous studies done by the New York Times that prove that articles get up to 80% more readership than ads.

So why does everyone and their mother make websites that look like ads?

Make your advertising or your website look valuable. Make it look like the person is going to learn something by visiting your website.

Don’t make it look like it’s going to just try to sell them something.

Also, the main goal of your website is to create a vibe of trust and credibility.

Do this quick exercise right now… at a first glance does your website:

1)Look like its going to add value?

2)Look trustworthy? Does it look like an authority on the topic made it?

And the part that most people really don’t understand is that, it’s usually the websites that spent thousands on flashy designs that look the most untrustworthy and “salesy”.

I realize that is the last thing you want to hear if you have spent some serious cash on your web design.

But, it’s the truth.

Another quick tip I can give you is make sure that there is a clear readership path.

Where is the eye supposed to go first? Where is the eye supposed to go second?

Guide them all the way down to the action you want them to take.

Don’t create a website that confuses your customers, where they have so many options they don’t even know where to start… so they just leave.

Hey, you don’t have to believe a word I say, but after doing hundreds of tests I have to say that less is more.

Test it out for yourself, and you’ll find out the same thing.

Being clear and simple, almost exclusively beats out complex and confusing.

So to recap, make sure your website adds value… and actually looks like it.

Also make sure that you guide your prospects step by step to the action you want them to take.
